A random internet
search for gaited horses in South Carolina led me to Richard McDuffie
(a founding Director of the McCurdy Plantation Horse Association) of
Aiken, SC and the horses about which he was so passionate, the McCurdy
Plantation Horse. The appointment to meet Mr. McDuffie and ride a
McCurdy opened a new world for me and was the beginning of an enduring
friendship. How fortuitous to be Mr. McDuffie’s friend and riding
buddy and have the opportunity to learn all he had to share about the
McCurdy horses. As his health began to fail, Mr. McDuffie asked that I
assume the responsibility for the South Carolina Chapter of the
McCurdy Plantation Horse Association. In the spring of 2005, I was
elected President of the SC Chapter and am honored to continue to
serve in that capacity. I also serve on the McCurdy Plantation Horse
Association Board of Directors.
